Chapter 41

“Hey Bro, we’re gonna to be late.” assessing their appearance quickly, his lips quirked up into a wide grin, “I can see your date was a success.” Winging his eyebrows upward at the obvious bulge in Jon’s pants, “so, do you still want to hit the bar?”

Flipping his friend off, Jon steered Amber towards the waiting helicopter and ignored Sambora’s comments. Seeing Linda already settled in the chopper, without even thinking Amber hopped up in and sat next to her, leaving Jon and Richie to take the seats facing them.

Frowning, Jon and Richie exchanged a silent dialogue that was missed entirely by the two women that were chatting animatedly about finally getting to see Les Paul play. It wasn’t like this was the first time the guys had seen him play, since Richie and Les were good friends and chances were Richie would end up on stage as he tended to do when he visited the Iridium. Shrugging, they fell into an easy conversation about the tour and what time they’d need to leave in the morning for the next stop since they were playing that evening. It wasn’t typical for them to wait until the morning of a show to fly out. As it was David, Tico, Hugh and the rest of the musicians and crew were already in Pittsburgh. Jon and Richie were the only ones that stayed in Philly because of their little side trip to New York with these two women. Less than an hour later they were all piled into a town car and headed to the Iridium just off Times Square.

“When was the last time you’ve been to the Iridium?” Amber questioned without specifying who she was asking.

Looking over at Jon, Richie answered, “I was there when we were playing a MSG. I don’t know the last time Jon’s been there.”

“It’s been a while. Have you ever been?” asking Linda, since he hadn’t spoken to her much, actually at all as Jon thought about it.

“No, it’ll be my first time.” her excitement nearly radiated from her, not only was she going, she was going with Richie! It was a dream come true. “I’m almost as excited about it as I am about flying ....” she stopped when she saw the warning glance from Richie, although that registered about the same moment that his hand clamped down on her leg.

“Flying? What’s exciting about flying?” Amber was lost and missed the whole exchange between her friend and Sambora. She knew her friend thought nothing of flying to see shows and her next flight was just to go home.

Blushing, Linda changed tact, “nothing. I’m just excited about seeing them play in Pittsburgh tomorrow night.”

Eyes narrowing, Jon knew there was more here. “You just saw us play on Saturday.” Then his frown deepened and he squinted at Richie, “why is she going to Pittsburgh?”

“I live there.” Linda quickly protested, since it appeared Jon was accusing Richie of, well, she didn’t know what, but something, “I flew here to see the show with the rest of my friends and because Richie wanted me to stay to go to the Iridium with him, I missed my flight home.”

And?” his eyes still piercing Richie.

Clearing his throat before answering, “I told her that there was no point in paying the change fee to fly back commercial when you and I were all that would be on our jet and invited her to fly with us. Didn’t figure there would be a problem with that.” He dared Jon to object, especially in front of Amber.

Sinking back against the soft leather of the seat, Jon huffed a breath, then turned to Amber, “so do you want to join us too?” He was beaten and knew it. There wasn’t a way in hell he’d turn down Richie’s request, especially when it had to do with one of her girlfriends. Already having witnessed how tight the group was, he wasn’t going to chance falling from their good graces and tempt fate where she was concerned, not again.

I have to work tomorrow, as much as I’d love to go to the show.” It wasn’t lost on her that Linda would see the inside of the Jovi jet when she’d never seen anything except Jon’s hotel room.

Pulling her in for a hug, Jon murmured that he’d make it up to her.

“You’d better,” she pouted and gave him a peck on the cheek. She wasn’t about to start kissing him like she had in the other car since this time they had witnesses.

Laughing lightly, Jon kissed her soundly on the mouth, enjoying the way she melted into him almost to the point of forgetting himself. “Sure you don’t want to fly to Pittsburgh with us?”

“I’d love to, but I already took today off work and I haven’t been with the company that long that I can get away with jet setting all over the country with a couple of rock stars. Hell, they don’t even know that I’m a Bon Jovi fan at work, much less that I took today off to spend it with you.” grinning when he rolled his eyes at her, something she found adorable.
