Chapter 39

Dressed in the cowl neck burnt sienna sweater and winter white wool pants that Jon bought her along with her chunky heeled boots, Amber felt more casually elegant than ever before. Her only regret was not buying the diamond chip encrusted bangle bracelets she’d spied in the jewelry department of one of the stores. They would have looked fabulous with her outfit. Not that she didn’t own a fair amount of nice jewelry that she’d accumulated over the years, but all of that was at home and she wasn’t in Jersey. Checking her reflection in the mirror, she was satisfied that she was ready for her first real date with Jon. He’d changed their dinner plans twice already and instead of the romantic dinner he initially spoke of, they were going to one of his favorite sushi restaurants in town. It was one of the things they discovered they both loved and she couldn’t wait to experience it with him. After all, she would never forget the video on the box set of Richie and his goofball ‘the will to live’ bit from a sushi restaurant somewhere in the world.

Stepping from the bathroom, she glanced around and didn’t see Jon. Walking into the sitting room of their suite she didn’t find him there either. Frowning slightly, she went back into the bedroom to make sure she didn’t miss him before crossing to the couch and sitting down. Confused by his absence, she wasn’t certain what to think, then shrugged and turned on the television to wait for him. A couple minutes later she heard a knock at the door and answered to find Jon standing there with a bouquet of flowers and a small box. “What’s this?”

“You didn’t expect me to pick you up for our date without bringing a gift to my girl, did you?” Waggling his eyebrows as that million watt smile broke out lighting his handsome face.

Laughing, she accepted the flowers and a chaste kiss on the cheek, just shaking her head at how romantic he was being. “Why thank you, Mr. Bon Jovi, I’m honored.” Sniffing the exquisite bouquet of a variety of white, yellow, purple and red dendrobium, phalaenopsis, oncidium and vandaceous orchids, she smiled up at him, “they’re wonderful and not something that would set off your allergies either.”

“I wanted something special for my special lady. That they won’t bother my allergies was a bonus. This is for you too.” That she knew so much about him personally at times set him on his heels, remembering how much of a fan she was before meeting him gave him insight into what he imagined some of the more ‘enthusiastic’ fans might know.

Accepting the small box, she had to juggle it with the flowers still in her hands, thrusting them back at Jon so she could open the box. “You know you didn’t have to do ...” her jaw dropped open as she withdrew the sparkling bangle bracelets she’d barely glanced at even if she did drool over them in her mind. “How’d you know? I love them. Oh, thank you, Jon!” Flinging her arms around his neck and kissing him soundly on the mouth.

He had to quickly adjust so the flowers didn’t get crushed when she came at him, but his satisfaction that his instincts were right about her wanting those particular bracelets was warming his heart. She really was special and he was determined to prove to her it wasn’t just sex, he really did love being with her. The feel of her flush up against his body, her mouth busily devouring his was intoxicating and sending all of his good intentions south. The almost instant response in his jeans reminded him they had dinner reservations that they’d miss if he gave into his body’s desires. Reluctantly pulling back, he winked at her, “How about thanking me properly later? We have somewhere to be and are meeting Mookie and Linda later.”

“Oh, yeah, there’s some thanking to be done, that’s for sure.” Turning away from him to drop the box on the little table in the entryway, she slipped the bracelets on, twisting her wrist back and forth to watch them sparkle and shine. The grin that was plastered on her lips showed just how excited she was over the gift. “I don’t know how you knew, but thank you!” Reaching for him again, she kissed him lightly and removed the flowers from his hand. Looking around she didn’t see anything to put them in, then walked through to the bathroom and filled the ice bucket with water. Bringing them into the sitting room, she was still smiling, a teasing glint to her eyes, “love the fancy vase, don’t you?”

Shaking his head again, Jon laughed lightly, “I knew I should have bought the vase, but I didn’t think it would be nearly as romantic as flowers wrapped in paper.” Picking up the room phone he called down to the desk and asked they bring up a vase for her flowers, telling them that they’d be gone from the room for the evening.

Unused to being pampered as Jon, she was surprised the hotel had people to do that, but then, he was a rock star.... Musing to herself about the perks of having a rock star boyfriend, even if for the most part he was just like any other guy, just one that had a whole lot more money than she did. Giggling to herself at that idea when she finally looked at his clothing for the evening, baggy jeans and a form-fitting black sweater with an unbuttoned black dress shirt over that. The contrast of the black against his blond hair looked amazing, smirking to herself that he always looked amazing. “I’m ready, if you are.” Laughing when the look on his face told her he was ready, but his thoughts were still centered around his desires. “for DINNER, Mr. Bon Jovi, for DINNER!” Laughing even harder at the exaggerated pout that now graced his beautiful face.

“When you put it that way, your chariot awaits downstairs,” extending his arm, so she could link hers in his, he placed his free hand over hers that was now wrapped around his elbow. Escorting her from their room, he closed the door behind them and heard the lock engage before they headed off for their evening out and first date.
