Chapter 46

Reading the boards on backstage had become almost an obsession. She wanted to know everything that she could about the shows she was missing and every move Jon made. Being a fan and visiting there was one thing, but being involved with him at any level and doing it changed everything about the way she viewed it. The pictures of him just made the longing for him more intense. But the PBPs, oh god, those were heaven and hell all at once. It was heaven to know exactly what he was doing at that moment and sheer hell that, as a fan, she knew his moves on stage so well and could now translate them into moves in the bedroom. Talking to him nearly every night or during the day, sometimes assuaged the painful need she was feeling, yet as soon as he hung up melancholy would strike again until he called the next time. Closing out of the website, she looked at her cup and decided it was time for another cup of tea. Being the minority around here when it came to coffee addictions, she had her own stash of teabags. Adored the scent of coffee, but just never developed the love for it.

Sitting alone in the break room, she was enjoying the solitude and her tea when the receptionist and her friend, Bridget, came in chattering away about Bon Jovi yet again. Why was it that now she was seeing Jon everyone around her seemed to be talking about him? Her friends pumped her for info all the time, but they didn’t share the info with anyone, or did they? Maybe she’d find out by asking a couple of well placed questions. She’d stayed up on the PBP the night before and had even gotten a few calls during the last couple weeks from shows her friends attended, but last night was Montreal and nobody had calls that she knew. “Hey girls. What’s new? Did you ever find out who that lucky girl was you were telling me about a couple weeks ago?”

Penny shook her head as she sat down, a steaming cup of coffee between her hands. “No. Those that know, and I know a few of them, aren’t telling. They say it’s an OGD secret. Damned OGDs anyway. They seem to think they’re special or something.” Snorting, “I’ll bet they don’t know who she is either.”

“OGD?” trying not to laugh. The OGDs were special. They were her friends and she was one of them, not one of the OGD7, but she was most definitely OGD.

“There’s a thread on Backstage?” Penny waited to see if Amber even knew what Backstage was, when getting no indication of knowledge, she continued, “on the old board, before Mrs. B changed it this time, the thread was called The Gutter Dwellers. Well, it’s still called that, but that board, the thread was like 700 pages and it got deleted because it got too raunchy. It’s toned down now. The OGD7 were the original seven girls that started the Gutter Dwellers thread. There are others that are OGD, but not the seven. Anyway, the girls that were in the pits, they were all OGD. The theory is that the girl Jon kissed, she was OGD too, but nobody knows who she was.”

“Oh. So Backstage is the fan club board? Do you belong to it?” she wanted their user names.

“Yeah, I’m AlwaysPenny and Bridget is FeverJovi. We’re both on the board a lot. How about you?” She was curious if Amber was as clueless as she seemed where Bon Jovi was concerned.

“Me?” startled by the question as she stowed their information. “Why would I belong to the Bon Jovi fan club?”

“Mrs. B always gets us the best seats possible. I was second row the last show here and Penny was seventh. We’re always in the first ten rows. Thanksgiving, she arranged for some of the fans to be in the group that ran out onto the field in Detroit at the Lions game when Bon Jovi played. She arranges fan club trips and sends little things in the renewal letters and there are the fanzines. Well, were. They’re being phased out. Anyway, lots of reasons to belong.” Bridget couldn’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to be in it. “And there’s always stuff on the boards about things they’re doing and where they’ve been spotted. Not to mention that David is just hot!”

“David? He’s the blond with all the curls, right?” never one to understand what anyone saw in him, but she wasn’t going to question it openly since it was one less woman lusting after her man. Frowning slightly as she wondered if he really was or it was infatuation and lust. Shaking herself mentally, she smiled, “It would be nice to have some of that curl in my hair. It’s so straight.” The dreamy expression on the girl’s face was almost comical. Glancing at her watch, she stood. “Well, back to work if I’m going to get out of here tonight.” She’d been putting in long hours on the project she was hoping to pitch to the investors next week. With any luck they’d be in pre-production by spring.

Back in her office she sat down and went immediately to the Backstage board and searched for posts by the two women she just talked to and laughed out loud at some of the comments they’d posted on the board about the lucky beatch that got kissed by Jon. A phone call to a couple of her friends would be all she needed to put her plan into action along with some help from Jonny. He’d laughed at her plan, but agreed to help out.
